By Nathan Seibert

Madison Neidlinger is a 20-year-old college student at Texas State University. At Texas State she’s a part of the Honors College and Diamond Sweethearts. Madison is currently in her junior year working towards a degree in Journalism and she hopes to attend law school afterwards or pursue a job as a news reporter. “I met with my business law professor to discuss attending law school and they recommended I get a degree in Journalism because it will look better when I apply,” Madison explains. She’s originally from Florida and has since moved around several times to Virginia, New Hampshire, and Texas because of her dad’s job. Madison spent her freshman and sophomore years of high school in Virginia, her junior year in New Hampshire, and her Senior year in Prosper, Texas. Although moving around constantly has been a hassle, Madison says that, “moving around as much as I have has taught me to adapt and accept change as it comes in my life.”
Aside from Madison’s studies, during her free time she enjoys playing volleyball and watching shows on Netflix. Her favorite TV series are The Office and American Horror Story; and her favorite film is the original Alice in Wonderland. Madison is an extremely bright and ambitious student. She’s eager to succeed and achieve her goals.

Hello, nice to meet you, my name is ...

My name is Sonia Vela and I am currently a senior at Texas State University. Although it’s taken me a little longer to get where I am I don’t feel the bit discouraged. I take faith in my education and how far it will take me. Also, I am practical and understand that a degree promises you an education but it does not always guarantee a career. It will require a lot of effort and sacrifice to become self-actualized. I’m a public relations major with a minor in health administration. Beside the fact that both studies are in different colleges, I believe they compliment one another very well. I feel very passionate for both health professions and mass communications.
I am twenty-two years old and I live in south Austin. I am recently engaged to my best friend and love, Juan. Together we own an almost 3-year-old blue heeler named Aria. We feel that we’ve learned more from her than we could ever teach in return. She’s goofy, sweet and sometimes lazy. Together we hike Turkey Creek Trail, kayak Town Lake, and swim the Greenbelt.
I enjoy traveling and planning my next trip. So far I’ve been to Mexico, Spain, France and Jamaica. Recently I have been traveling mostly in the country. Just in the past two years I’ve adventured through Colorado, California, Wyoming and New York. My dream is to complete a grand European tour.
I work full time in a veterinary specialty and emergency practice in north Austin. While both commutes can sometimes feel far they never feel like a bother. I love my job and being on campus because I am surrounded by others who feel the same. When you enjoy what you do, nothing feels like a task. Except finding parking on campus, that’s the worst. Aside from that, my goal is to remain happy in what I do. The best in their craft are the most passionate. I am hopeful in being just as passionate as I am successful.

Alec Harrison: A Road Not Taken

Alec Harrison was born on January 3, 1992, in Plano, Texas, where he attended his first 12 years of school. At a young age, Harrison was talented and had a love for basketball. He probably didn’t think he’d grow up to be 6’7. His father told him upfront that going pro in basketball is rare, but Harrison still continued to play until college—being the open-minded individual he is.

After graduating in 2010 with a 5.3 GPA, Harrison decided to go to school at Arkansas State University for 2 years where he majored in Advertising and minored in psychology. When asked why he is pursuing a degree in Advertising, Harrison responded, “I’ve always leaned towards advertising.” Although, he doesn’t really care for advertisements; he has a different type of artistic view with what he wants to do with his degree. “I would prefer to create things like cartoons and movies,” Harrison said. He also wants be a voice maker.

His third year, he decided to transfer to Texas State University where he went to school on and off, working at Apple in order to gain money for college. It is now his senior year of college, and he works at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas.  Harrison is friendly and laid-back, so it does not bother him working and serving others at his job in Austin. On his time off, he enjoys snowboarding at Lake Taupo in Breckenridge, Texas,
and spending time with his dog, Mowgli.

Texas State Student Vianney Strick Destined for Your TV Screen

By: Shelby Jimenez

Conversational and passionate about broadcast entertainment, Vianney Strick is a Houston, Texas local, a part time worker, and a full time student at Texas State University. In her 4th year of Texas State University and at 22 years old, Vianney is studying electronic media in hopes of going into broadcasting entertainment, and after an internship with Channel 55 Houston she has experience with filming segments and cohosting talk shows.
Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Vianney has roots in the Spanish language and is no stranger to bilingual broadcasting. Moving to Texas at the age of 9, Vianney had a language barrier to overcome, but the language she spoke was hardly a barrier, as she is today devoting her life to communicating with others.
Inspired by the likes of Giuliana Rancic, she soon decided that broadcast entertainment was for her. Vianney wishes to be a news presence that allows for people to speak their mind by creating a welcoming and encouraging environment. On this topic she says, “I would love to not only spread entertainment and positivity through the medias, but I would also love to have a platform to spread awareness of social issues through a medium where people feel free and safe to speak and encourage each other to make changes.”
Vianney wants to make her family proud, but also to make the masses proud by being, “a good role model for anyone no matter were they come from or where they’re going.”
