Hello, nice to meet you, my name is ...

My name is Sonia Vela and I am currently a senior at Texas State University. Although it’s taken me a little longer to get where I am I don’t feel the bit discouraged. I take faith in my education and how far it will take me. Also, I am practical and understand that a degree promises you an education but it does not always guarantee a career. It will require a lot of effort and sacrifice to become self-actualized. I’m a public relations major with a minor in health administration. Beside the fact that both studies are in different colleges, I believe they compliment one another very well. I feel very passionate for both health professions and mass communications.
I am twenty-two years old and I live in south Austin. I am recently engaged to my best friend and love, Juan. Together we own an almost 3-year-old blue heeler named Aria. We feel that we’ve learned more from her than we could ever teach in return. She’s goofy, sweet and sometimes lazy. Together we hike Turkey Creek Trail, kayak Town Lake, and swim the Greenbelt.
I enjoy traveling and planning my next trip. So far I’ve been to Mexico, Spain, France and Jamaica. Recently I have been traveling mostly in the country. Just in the past two years I’ve adventured through Colorado, California, Wyoming and New York. My dream is to complete a grand European tour.
I work full time in a veterinary specialty and emergency practice in north Austin. While both commutes can sometimes feel far they never feel like a bother. I love my job and being on campus because I am surrounded by others who feel the same. When you enjoy what you do, nothing feels like a task. Except finding parking on campus, that’s the worst. Aside from that, my goal is to remain happy in what I do. The best in their craft are the most passionate. I am hopeful in being just as passionate as I am successful.
