Passionate for Change: Shelby Jimenez

By Vianney Strick

Shelby Jimenez is a 20-year-old young woman from Jourdanton, Texas who is attending Texas State University. She was first introduced to the university by her father who is an alumni. She is majoring in digital media innovation and minoring in political science. Her theater classes and experience as the morning announcer in high school became the roots of her passion to inform the masses.
“My biggest passion is technology and the way it connects people. If I could devote my life to keeping up with the new media, and use that to spread important information, I would really feel satisfied,” Shelby says. She wishes to use her degree to be involved in political journalism focusing on improving the problems of people living near the Mexican and Texan border face every day. She would also love to focus on women’s issues and issues of people of color. “Everyone has a purpose in life and I can’t help but think that mine is to shine light on the tragedy of those South Texas towns. I have a family that came over the border to make a better life for me, and I have that. So I want to be a voice for those people down South that no one is really listening to,” she shares. Shelby is very excited for what the future has in store for her and she can’t wait to see how many people she will be able to help with her knowledge gained from Texas State University.
